OU Prepped for Arturo Barrios Invitational

October 12, 2023 | Cross Country

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams compete in their final regular season race at the Arturo Barrios Invitational, in College Station, Texas, on Friday.

The OU men will run an 8K at 8:30 a.m. and the women will run a 6K at 9:15 a.m. Oklahoma will feature seven runners on both the men's and women's sides.

The Sooners return to the Watts Cross Country Course for the first time in five years. Texas A&M is set to host over 40 teams on the men's and women's sides.

"We're going to be lining up against some nationally ranked teams and a plethora of regionally ranked teams not only in the Midwest region, but in a lot of surrounding regions," said Head Coach Tim Langford.

Two weeks ago, the Sooners competed in Fayetteville, Ark., at the Chile Pepper Festival on Friday, Sept. 29. The men's squad recorded a fifth-place finish in the 8K and the women's team registered 21st place in the 5K.

Redshirt senior Nicholas Young earned the men's top finish, grabbing 17th place with a time of 24:52.2. Junior Gabi Barrera secured the women's top finish, placing 27th with a time of 17:45.8.

"This is going to be a good last test for our men and women before conference, but one that I think we're prepared for," added Langford, "I'm excited to see how we react and respond to the challenge and competition we'll face heading into Friday."

Live results from the Arturo Barrios Invitational will be available via Flash Results.
