STILLWATER, OKLA. — The Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams showed out at the NCAA Midwest Regionals in Stillwater, Okla., Friday morning. Individual Sooners claimed 5 All-Region honors,
Leah Jeruto and
Sanae Hassnaoui lead the pack for the women, while
Ronald Ngetich,
Evans Biwott and
Shadrack Kiptoo all crossed in the top-20.
OU's men finished third, their highest finish since 2015. Freshman
Ronald Ngetich led the men, finishing eighth (30:11.8) and receiving all-region honors. Also receiving honors include freshmen
Evans Biwott (11th, 30:27.4) and
Shadrack Kiptoo (16th, 30:45.4). Other scorers for the Sooners include sophomore Thobias Cheruioyot (31:00.4) and
Hayden Gray (31:55.6). Senior
Joshua Cherry rounded out the Sooner men, recording a personal best time of 34:45.6.
Sophomore
Leah Jeruto paced the Sooner women, finishing tenth (20:33.9), and junior
Sanae Hassnaoui followed shortly behind, finishing 14th (20:40.5), both collecting all-region honors. Other scorers for the Sooners include
Abby Jepchirchir (21:56.5),
Sophie Coughlin (22:00.7), and
Megan Johnson (22:34.1). The women finished seventh for a total of 278 points.
The Sooners hope to continue their postseason campaign at the NCAA Cross Country Nationals in Columbia, Mo., Saturday, Nov. 22. At-large bids and individual qualifiers will be announced during the NCAA Cross Country selection show airing on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. CT.
