XC Wraps Up Regular Season at Arturo Barrios Invitational

October 13, 2023 | Cross Country

College Station, Texas – The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams competed in their last regular season race at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station, Texas, on Friday.

The Oklahoma men's squad registered 16th place in the 8K with a team score of 424 points. The women's squad placed 25th in the 6K with a team score of 783 points.

12 total runners on the men's and women's sides recorded new personal records.

"I'm really happy and proud of the effort and performances for both the men and the women," said coach Tim Langford, "any day you have 12 personal records collectively means that things are starting to click at the right time, which is what we've targeted from day one."

Redshirt senior Nicholas Young secured the men's squad's top finish, grabbing 36th place with a new personal best of 24:04.1. At 38th place, senior Fernando Morales registered a personal-best time of 24:04.6. Sophomore Erin O'Brien earned the women's top performance placing 102nd, clocking in at 21:10.1. Junior Gabi Barrera followed at 103rd place, with a personal-best time of 21:10.5.

"The more that we expose ourselves to this type and caliber of competition the more I believe we will learn and grow," added Langford, "I'm really pleased with these two teams and excited for our build up to the Big 12 Championships here in a couple of weeks."

Results from the Arturo Barrios Invitational can be found via Flash Results.

The Sooners head to Ames, Iowa, for the Big 12 Conference Championships on Oct. 28 for their first postseason race.
