The University of Oklahoma owns one of the greatest winning traditions in intercollegiate athletics. OU expects great things from all its athletics teams and the Sooners have delivered time and time again, with 45 team national championships.

After the women's gymnastics program won its seventh national crown on April 19, 2025, Oklahoma ran its streak of at least one national title to 12 years (not including the COVID-shortened 2019-20 season) and has amassed 19 championships during that span.

OU claimed three NCAA titles in a span of 53 days in 2016: men's and women's gymnastics on April 16 and softball on June 8. It marked the first time in school history the Sooners won three team national championships in the same semester. They bettered the feat in 2017 with four in 52 days: women's gymnastics on April 15, men's gymnastics on April 22, men's golf on May 31 and softball on June 6.

Men's gymnastics leads all OU teams with 12 national championships and is followed by softball (8), football (7), women's gymnastics (7), wrestling (7), baseball (2) and men's golf (2).
