NORMAN — The Oklahoma men's cross country team took fourth at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., while the women competed at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo., Friday morning. The fourth-place finish from the men marked the best finish in program history at the annual Jamboree, while freshman Evans Biwott's second-place mark was the highest place for an individual Sooner male in school annals.
The freshman Biwott, paced the men's team for the second week this season, finishing the 8K with a time of 23:36.9 to take second, the highest finish for an OU male runner ever at the Jamboree. Ronald Ngetich's time of 23:53.4 secured him a top-ten finish. Sophomores Shadrack Kiptoo and Thobias Cheruiyot also scored for the Sooners, finishing 19th and 31st, respectively.
The women raced a 6K at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo., with junior Leah Jeruto leading the pack for the Sooners with a time of 20:21.2, finishing 53rd.
The Sooners return to action in two weeks, with the women traveling south to College Station, Texas, for the Arturo Barrios Invitational, while the men take on the Princeton Fall Classic in Princeton, N.J., on Friday, October 17.
