OU Men, Jeruto Ready for NCAA Championships

November 21, 2025 | Cross Country

NORMAN - The University of Oklahoma men's cross country team and sophomore Leah Jeruto are set to compete at the 2025 NCAA National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Columbia, Mo.

The meet is hosted by the University of Missouri and will be held at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course. The women will race a 6K beginning at 9:20 a.m. CT, followed by the men's 10K at 10:10 a.m. CT.

The men's team returns to the NCAA Championships after a ten-year drought, last qualifying in 2015 through an at-large bid, where the Sooners finished fifteenth. This year, OU's men received an at-large bid after finishing third in the Midwest Regional and earning three individual All-Region honors.

"Tomorrow marks the finale of a fantastic season," said co-head cross country coach Jay Weaver. "Since August, our goal has been to be here at the NCAA Championships as a team. I'm so proud of the dedication, determination, and belief these men have shown to get to this point. Since Oklahoma's name appeared during the selection show we've enjoyed and embraced the hard work and moments that have gotten us to this stage but we're still approaching tomorrow like every other challenge, opportunity, and race. I'm excited for tomorrow and to see what this group can accomplish."

Sophomore Leah Jeruto is slated to make her second appearance in the championship after finishing eighth at Midwest Regionals and receiving automatic qualification following the selection show. Jeruto's 40th place finish at the 2024 NCAA Championships earned her All-American honors, joining an elite group of just six women in Oklahoma history who have received such honors.

"Leah is ready to go," said co-head cross country coach Anna Bearss. "All season, the momentum she has built has been incredible to watch. Week by week, she's put pieces in place to bring her closer to peak form for this point in the season. The goal of the trip is to embrace everything that's special about this experience, and when the gun goes off, to race with heart and confidence. Leah deserves to be here for a chance to shine against this level of talent."

Set to compete for the Sooners at the Championship are Evans Biwott, Thobias Cheruiyot, Hayden Gray, Shadrack Kiptoo, Ronald Ngetich, Logan Seger and Adrian Stuphan.

Top-21 finishes from Biwott, Kiptoo and Ngetich earned the men All-Region honors last weekend.

At the 2024 NCAA Championships, Cheruiyot placed 104th with a time of 29:57.

Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in both the men's and women's championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regions, for a total of 18 teams last weekend at their respective regional sites. Fourteen additional teams were selected at-large.

Thirty-eight individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished in the top-25 in their region. The first-place finisher will be crowned the 2025 NCAA Champion and the first 40 runners to cross the finish line in each race will be named All-Americans.
