NORMAN – The OU men's and women's cross country teams competed in their final meet of the regular season Friday. Freshman
Evans Biwott won the men's 8K at the Princeton Fall Chase, helping the team to a second-place finish, while sophomore
Leah Jeruto finished fifth in the women's 6K at the Arturo Barrios Invitational.
The women raced in the prestigious Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station, Texas, where the team secured an eighth-place finish and
Leah Jeruto, clocked a time of 19:29.9. Sophomore
Mia McGlade recorded a personal best time of 22:15.0 in the women's 6K.
"We made progress today, the group had our strongest showing of the season and we are building momentum at the right time," said co-head coach Anna Bearss. "Leah did a phenomenal job leading the team to prove she's in top form as we enter the postseason. Behind her, we had others who bettered their marks from this meet last year. Every week more pieces are coming together and we are excited for conference."
The men placed second at the Princeton Fall Classic with a total of 67 points, and
Evans Biwott secured his second win of the season, finishing the 8K in 22:57.4. Four other Sooners recorded personal bests, including
Ronald Ngetich (23:03.0),
Shadrack Kiptoo (23:06.6),
Hayden Gray (24:00.6), and
Adrian Stuphan (24:19.0).
"I'm really proud of the men today," said co-head cross country coach Jay Weaver. "We're finding out stride at the right time. It's always nice to come away with an individual win in a field like this, but most importantly, beating some nationally ranked and talented teams and going toe to toe with an experienced and very talented Princeton team is a testament to how hard this team has worked. We are excited to get back to work as we look ahead to SEC's in a few weeks."
The Sooners travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to begin the postseason at the 2025 SEC Cross Country Championship on Friday, Oct. 31.
