Sooners Wrap Up Play at ITA Sectionals

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Oklahoma women's tennis team closed out play at the ITA Central Sectional Championships this weekend in College Station with competitive performances across both singles and doubles draws.

In doubles play, senior Oyinlomo Quadre and junior Chloé Noël opened the tournament with a 6-2, 4-6, [13-11] victory over Tereze Dejnozkova and Daianne Hayashida of Iowa before narrowly falling to TCU's Victoria Gomez O'Hayon and Yu-Chin Tsai, 6-7 (8), 7-5, [4-10].

In the singles main draw, two Sooners reached the round of 16. Quadre claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win over Iowa State's Ashlee Narker before falling in next round to Texas A&M's Violeta Martinez, 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Salakthip Ounmuang notched a win to open her tournament, defeating Texas's Christasha McNeil, 6-3, 7-6 (3) before dropping her round of 16 match to No. 102 Zuzanna Kubacha (Baylor), 3-6, 6-7 (3).

Noël rebounded from an opening singles loss to Texas Tech's Hailey Murphy (6-2, 3-6, 3-6) with a ranked win over No. 107 Reese Miller of Michigan, 6-0, 6-4 in consolations.

Sophomore Gloriana Nahum made an impressive run through the singles consolation draw, winning four straight matches to wrap up the weekend. After falling in a three-set opening match to SMU's Sophie Llewellyn, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, Nahum bounced back with a string of victories, beating Kansas State's Maralgoo Chogsomjav, 6-4, 6-4, and Nebraska's Maria Taranova, 7-5, 6-2, before continuing her momentum with a 6-1, 6-4, win over Notre Dame's Bojana Pozder. Nahum capped off her strong showing by taking down No. 31 Emily Sartz-Lunde of Michigan, 7-6 (1), 6-0.

The Sooners will close their fall slate with the NCAA Individual Championships in Orlando, Fla. from November 18-23, where senior Julia Garcia Ruiz will represent OU in singles play.
