Spring Season Begins with Back-to-Back Wins

NORMAN – The No. 6 Oklahoma women's tennis team opened its 2026 dual slate with a pair of wins over Tarleton State and Wyoming on Thursday.

The Sooners began the match in doubles play against the Texans. Finishing first, Evialina Laskevich and Julia Garcia Ruiz earned a 6-1 win on court two over Aya Ishii and Marissa Minetti. To secure the doubles point, Salakthip Ounmuang and Laura Brunkel knocked off Tarleton State's Clara Sobius and Emma Persson, 6-2, on court three.

Carrying a 1-0 advantage into singles, Chloé Noël extended the lead with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Ishii on court two. At the No. 6 spot, Roisin Gilheany joined Noël in the win column by defeating Dariia Medviedieva, 6-2, 6-2.

Ounmuang clinched the first win of the season for the Sooners on court three, outlasting Ximena Morales in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4.

OU returned to action later in the day against Wyoming, opening with another strong doubles performance that saw the Sooners lose only one game. On court one, Gilheany and Laskevich cruised to a 6-0 win over Violetta Borodina and Silver Bijlsma. At the No. 2 spot, Ounmuang and Garcia Ruiz went up against Ishii and Minetti and grabbed the 6-1 victory to secure the advantage.

The Sooners dominated in singles play, starting with Laskevich earning a 6-2, 6-0 win on court one over Ana Kochelaevskaia, followed by Gloriana Nahum taking the 6-0, 6-0 victory against Ruby Young at the No. 5 spot.

Laura Brunkel clinched the match for the Sooners on court six, defeating Serina Abriola 6-0, 6-1.

The remaining courts played on, as Oyinlomo Quadre, Edda Mamedova and Ounmuang all added wins to secure the 7-0 shutout for the Sooners.

UP NEXT

Following Thursday's doubleheader sweep, OU returns to action Saturday to take on Wichita State and Texas State at Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman.
