April 17, 2026 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN – The No. 4 Oklahoma women's tennis team saw its 13-match winning streak come to an end Friday, falling 4-3 to No. 15 LSU in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Sooners move to 23-5 overall on the season.

Oklahoma started strong in doubles, securing the opening point for the 27th time this season. Julia Garcia Ruiz and Salakthip Ounmuang got things started with a 6-2 win over Addison Lanton and Carolina Kuhl at the No. 3 position, improving to 20-2 together and extending their winning streak to 12 matches.

After LSU evened the doubles score at court two, the nation's top-ranked duo of Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum clinched the point with a 7-5 victory over Cadence Brace and Kayla Cross at the No. 1 position. The pair improved to 6-0 together this spring and 15-2 overall.

In singles, LSU struck early with a straight-set win at the No. 1 position to even the match at 1-1. Nahum quickly responded for the Sooners, earning a 6-2, 6-3 victory over No. 110 Kenna Erickson at court six to give Oklahoma a 2-1 lead. The win improved Nahum to 14-1 in singles this spring.

The Tigers then gained momentum with a win at court four to knot the contest at 2-2.

Freshman Edda Mamedova battled back at the No. 2 position, rallying for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over No. 46 Kayla Cross to give the Sooners the lead back at 3-2. The victory marked her fifth ranked singles win of the season and improved her to 13-5 this spring.

The match ultimately came down to court five, where LSU's Ella McDonald outlasted Julia Garcia Ruiz in two straight tiebreak sets, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2), to clinch the contest for the Tigers.
