NORMAN – The sixth-seeded Oklahoma women's tennis team punched its ticket to the NCAA Super Regional with a 4-2 victory over SMU on Sunday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
With the win, the Sooners advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the 2026 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship and improved to 25-5 overall (13-2 SEC). The 25 victories mark the second-highest single-season win total in program history, trailing only the 32-win national runner-up squad from 2022.
Oklahoma will host No. 11 seed Pepperdine in the Super Regional on Friday, May 8 at 5 p.m. CT in Norman.
The Sooners are headed to the Super Regional round for the third time in program history and the first time since 2023 under head coach Audra Cohen.
Oklahoma opened the match by dropping the doubles point for just the second time this season, falling on courts one and three despite a 6-4 win from the No. 20 duo of Evialina Laskevich and Edda Mamedova on court two.
In singles, Oklahoma responded with wins on four courts to clinch the match. Gloriana Nahum continued her strong NCAA Tournament play with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory on court six to put the Sooners on the board. The Cotonou, Benin, native remains unbeaten in NCAA Tournament singles play in her career, improving to 4-0 across two seasons.
No. 60 Julia Garcia Ruiz followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court three, securing her 20th singles victory of the season. The senior advances to her third career NCAA Super Regional and is the longest-tenured Sooner and the only remaining player from the 2022 national runner-up team.
Salakthip Ounmuang added another point with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court four, also reaching the 20-win mark this season and becoming the second Sooner alongside Nahum to record back-to-back straight-set victories during the regional.
Chloé Noël delivered the clinching point on court five, battling to a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win to secure Oklahoma's spot in the Super Regional. The junior from Strasbourg, France, moved to court five from her primary spot on court four beginning in Saturday's round of 64 match and notched her first singles win since April 4.
With the victory, the Sooners improved to 1-1 on the season when dropping the doubles point, marking the first time Oklahoma has won a match after losing doubles.
