Sooners Ready for Iowa State, Kansas

NORMAN - The No. 22 Oklahoma women's tennis team is set to hit the road for two conference matches this week, beginning with Iowa State on Thursday before traveling back south to face No. 50 Kansas on Saturday. 
 

MATCHDAY BASICS 

First serve against the Cyclones is set for 12 p.m. CT on Thursday. Fans can keep up with the action through live stats

Sunday's match against the Jayhawks is also scheduled for 12 p.m. CT. The contest can be followed through live stats and live video
 

LAST TIME OUT 

The No. 20 Oklahoma women's tennis team fell to No. 1 Oklahoma State, 4-1, in Sunday afternoon's Bedlam matchup at the Headington Family Tennis Center. 

The Sooners gave up the doubles point to the Cowgirls (19-0, 8-0 Big 12) to open the match.

On court three, Chloe Noel and Ava Catanzarite were defeated by Safiya Carrington and Kristina Novak, 6-2. OU's No. 3 pairing of Dana Guzman and Alina Shcherbinina fell to No. 8 Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru at the top court. 

In singles, OU tied the score at 1-1 as No. 39 Julia Garcia Ruiz picked up her seventh ranked win of the season over No. 10 Komar, 6-4, 6-4. The sophomore from Mexico improved her season singles dual record to 13-0. 

The Cowgirls went on to win the next three matches, starting at the third court which saw No. 65 Lucia Peyre take down OU's No. 95 Shcherbinina, 6-3, 6-1. On court four, No. 77 Carrington knocked off No. 50 Florencia Urrutia, 6-4, 7-6(2). 

OSU clinched the match as OU's Noel was downed by No. 81 Ayumi Miyamoto, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, on court five.

When play was halted, No. 34 Guzman was trailing in a third set to No. 4 Kajuru, 6-4, 6-7(4), 1-2,  on the top court. At the No. 6 line, Emma Staker found herself falling behind to Novak, 6-3, 3-6, 4-5. 
 

IN THE RANKINGS 

The Sooners (10-5, 5-2 Big 12) currently have five players in the ITA singles rankings. Leading the pack is No. 34 Dana Guzman, followed by No. 39 Julia Garcia Ruiz, No. 50 Florencia UrrutiaNo. 95 Alina Shcherbinina and No.123 Ava Catanzarite.

In doubles, OU is represented by No. 3 Guzman and Shcherbinina, followed by No. 20 Guzman and Roisin Gilheany, and rounded out by No. 55 Garcia Ruiz and Zdena Safarova.  
 

UP NEXT 

The Sooners return to Norman for their final homestand of the season, beginning with a match against BYU on Thursday, April 4 at 5 p.m. CT, followed by a matchup with No. 28 Texas Tech on Saturday, April 6 at 12 p.m. CT.
