Waco, Texas – The University of Oklahoma track and field team concluded the Clyde Hart Classic held in Waco, Texas, Saturday night.
Three Sooners collected first place, 27 earned new career bests and eight recorded top-ten marks in the NCAA.
"We had a highly productive weekend in Waco. I am extremely pleased with the way the team performed and competed," stated head coach James Thomas. "March is a great month to compete and make the necessary meet-speed adjustments."
Two Sooners competed in the women's hammer throw to open Friday's field events.
Kassidy Gallagher grabbed third place with a 62.08m (203'8") toss and
Kennedy Clarke earned fourth with a collegiate PR of 58.00m (190'03").
Olivia Lueking secured another meet title in the women's pole vault, measuring a 4.30m (14'1.25") jump.
Tessani Foster registered 3.70m (12'1.50") for 12th.
"Olivia continues to compete. She found a way to win on a day where quite a few people were struggling with the conditions," said assistant coach for vertical jumps, Jerel Langley.
The men's hammer throwers earned two podium finishes.
Bayley Campbell grabbed second place with a 67.63m (221'10") toss and
Ben Ryer registered third with a 61.76m (202'7") mark.
In the women's long jump,
Jasmine Akins grabbed the Sooners' best finish at second place with a 6.28m (20'7.75") leap.
Ally Stephenson followed in sixth with a career-best 5.96m (19'6.75") mark.
Nebtom N'Da recorded 5.57m (18'3.25") and
Agur Dwol registered 5.36m (17'7").
In his collegiate outdoor debut, sophomore
Colton Rhodes took the men's pole vault title with a career-best 5.30m (17'4.50") mark.
Langley spoke on Rhodes' title, "I'm really happy with Colton's performance. It's been a long time coming and he's been working on some technical changes. It was great to see it all click this weekend."
Jenna James and
Sidney Kinnison kickstarted running events for the Sooners with the women's 400-meter hurdles. James earned 12th overall and the fifth-best time by a collegian, clocking in at 1:01.66. Kinnison registered a collegiate-best 1:04.99 time.
Seven Sooners were tested in the women's 200-meter dash.
Alexis Williams took second place with a 23.62 time,
Amanda Obijiaku registered 24.03 for eighth and
Jada Atkinson recorded 24.26 for 15th. Ka'liyah Jordan made her collegiate debut, clocking in at 24.63.
Alyia Green earned a career-best 25.17 time and
Angel Richmore grabbed a new personal best of 25.94.
The men's 200-meter dash followed where
Richard Johnson took eighth with a 21.38 time and
Jaylen Barringer earned a career-best 21.50 time for 10th.
Paige Low earned second place in the women's discus, throwing to 54.25m (178'0").
Amiyah Norwood followed in eighth with a 43.90m (144'0") mark. Tuane Silver grabbed a new career best throw of 42.71 (140'0") for 11th.
Two Sooners leapt into finals of the men's long jump.
BJ Green secured seventh with a personal record jump of 7.12m (23'4.50") and
Ricky Smith grabbed ninth with a collegiate-best 7.04m (23'1.25").
In the women's 1500m, five Sooners raced to career performances. Junior
Gabi Barrera grabbed seventh place with a personal-best time of 4:26.10.
Erin O'Brien followed with a 4:41.22 time and
Grace Hanson clocked a collegiate PR of 4:45.58.
Grace Williamson registered a career-best 4:48.06 time and
Lily Horvath collected a collegiate record of 4:05.11.
Logan Seger surged to ninth place in the men's 1500m with a collegiate PR of 3:58.83 and
Peter Makuei earned a career-best 4:04.11 time.
Bryant Parlin closed out day one with third place in the men's discus and a 50.05m (164'2") mark.
The women's javelin opened day two of field events for the Sooners.
Angel Richmore recorded second place with a 46.01m (150'11") mark and
Amiyah Norwood grabbed ninth with a season-best 38.05 (124'10") throw.
In the triple jump,
Victory George leaped to 11.97m (39'3.25") for seventh place on the women's side and
Floyd Whitaker measured in at 14.57m (47'9.75") for seventh on the men's side.
On his first attempt,
Danny Doheny recorded 59.61m (195'7") in the men's javelin for third place.
Two women's 4x400-meter relays took to the track. The quartet of
Alyia Green,
Amanda Obijiaku,
Jada Atkinson and
Alexis Williams earned second place with a 44.98 time. The team of
Victory George,
Jasmine Akins,
Agur Dwol and
Nebtom N'Da clocked in at 45.67 for eighth.
Paige Low put up a massive career-best in the women's shot put, recording 16.88m (55'4.75") for second place and the third-best throw in the NCAA so far this season. This toss also accounts for the sixth-best measure in OU outdoor history. Redshirt freshman
Kennedy Clarke secured 12th place with a 14.01m (45'11.75") throw.
Two Sooners put down career-best performances in the hurdles.
Ally Stephenson registered a personal record time of 14.70 in the 100-meter hurdles and
Cameron Jackson earned a collegiate best time of 14.86.
Three new career-best times highlighted the women's 400-meter dash.
Jayda Gibson ran a 54.10 for fifth place,
Emmanuella Njenje registered 55.17 and
Kyla Lewis grabbed a 56.16 time.
"The men's and women's sprints groups came out these past two days and battled," praised assistant coach for men's and women's sprints, Mookie Salaam. "To walk away from this meet with personal records and season bests is always a great feeling. I'm very proud of this group and how they are coming around."
Zarik Brown earned second place in the men's 400m, clocking 46.16, the No. 6 time in the NCAA and
Gage Hensey earned a season-best 48.11 time for ninth.
A freshman trio competed in the men's high jump.
Kyren Washington grabbed the best finish in fifth place with a 2.06m (6'9") mark.
Jack Wahl and
Tyson Ritz tied at eighth, both jumping 2.01m (6'7").
Eight Sooners tested their speed in the women's 100-meter dash.
Alexis Williams secured the top finish in fifth place with a career-best time of 11.62.
Amanda Obijiaku recorded 11.83 for 13th and
Jordyn Price finished in 17th, clocking a collegiate PR of 11.98.
Nebtom N'Da (12.03),
Kennedy Crutchfield (12.05), Ka'liyah Jordan (12.11),
Pippi Lotta Enok (12.13) and
Victory George (12.14) also recorded times in the 100m.
Kailynn Jackson earned a podium finish in the women's 800m with a collegiate-best time of 2:12.09 for third place.
Kel McDavid also grabbed a personal record, clocking in at 2:16.98 for seventh place.
Men's 800-meter runner
Gabe Medina grabbed the best finish by a Sooner with a 1:52.86 time for sixth place.
Fernando Morales recorded 1:53.98 for eighth and
Carlos Tello earned a collegiate PR time of 1:54.02 for ninth.
The women's 4x400-meter relay consisted of two Oklahoma squads. Quartet of
Jayda Gibson,
Nia Parks,
Emmanuella Njenje and
Jada Atkinson recorded a 3:40.13 time for fourth place. The team of
Jenna James,
Alyia Green,
Kyla Lewis and
Pippi Lotta Enok earned sixth with a 3:42.29 time.
To close out running events, men's 4x400-meter relay of
Zarik Brown,
Gage Hensey,
Jaylen Barringer and
Richard Johnson registered 3:08.11 for second overall and the best finish by a collegiate squad.
Diego Trevino closed out field events for the Sooners with a title in the men's shot put. His season-best throw of 19.42m (63'8.75") is the third-best in the NCAA.
Tucker Smith grabbed fifth place with a 17.71m (58'1.25") mark and
Bryant Parlin threw for another season-best 17.43m (57'1.25") measure for sixth.
