TULSA, Okla. - The Oklahoma men's tennis team defeated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon.

Mark Mandlik and Nathan Han took the first win in doubles, 6-3. Kholo Montsi and Alex Martinez dropped their doubles match, 4-6, leaving it all up to Jordan Hasson and Luis Alvarez on court five. Hasson and Alvarez secured the doubles point for the Sooners after winning their match, 6-4.

Freshman and No. 125 Montsi defeated No. 74 Alex Okonkwo in straight sets at the three singles line, 6-3, 6-2, to give the Sooners a 2-0 lead.

Hasson took another straight-set win at the two singles position against Thiago Pernas, 6-3, 6-4, setting OU up to clinch the match with one more victory.

Mandlik clinched the match for the Sooners, taking a 3-0 lead in the first set against Victor Tosetto before dropping the set, 4-6. He rebounded and took the second set, 6-3, to send the match to a decsive third set. He put up a dominant showing in the third set and won the match, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.

After dropping his first set, Alvarez battled hard in the second set before falling 2-6, 6-7 (5). Fifth-year senior Justin Schlageter had a tight competition against Callum Gale on court four with both sets going to tiebreakers. Schlageter ultimately fell in straight sets, 6-7(4), 6-7(5).

To wrap up the match, Martinez won a split-set tiebreak at the one singles position, defeating Pierce Rollins, 7-6 (6), 5-7, 10-7.

BACK IN ACTION

The Sooners head to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on Florida State on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.
