NORMAN — University of Oklahoma head men's tennis coach
Nick Crowell announced Wednesday the addition of Kyle Seelig as assistant coach.
A former student-athlete at Ohio State, Seelig joins the Sooners after spending the last three seasons as assistant coach at Liberty.
"We are very excited to welcome Kyle and his family to our program here at Oklahoma," Crowell said. "He was one of the best competitors in college tennis in the last 10 years. He has a tremendous work ethic and ability to connect with people. I know he will fit right in with our culture and help us thrive moving forward."
In his first season with the Flames in 2024, Seelig helped lead the team to a conference runner-up finish in their Conference USA debut season. The team posted an 18-9 record and reached a season-high ITA team rank of No. 45. Liberty finished the 2026 season with a 14-10 record, a No. 63 final national ranking.
As a college tennis player, Seelig competed at Ohio State from 2015-21 and was part of four straight Big Ten championships from 2016-19. He was a three-time first-team All-Big Ten selection (2019-21) and compiled a career singles record of 127-40 and a doubles mark of 45-21. He helped the Buckeyes claim the 2019 ITA Indoor National Championship and a runner-up finish at the 2018 NCAA National Championship.
"I am thrilled to be joining Coach Crowell and the Oklahoma men's tennis program," Seelig said. "I'm fired up to join Sooner Nation and can't wait to get started."
During his redshirt junior season in 2019, Seelig helped the Buckeyes reach a No. 1 ITA team ranking and posted an 18-0 combined record in his singles and doubles matches in Big Ten play. He reached a career-best singles ranking of 12th and qualified for the 2019 NCAA Singles Championships.
Seelig was named to the all-tournament team at the 2018 NCAA Championship and was selected to the ITA Indoor Championships All-Tournament Team at No. 2 doubles in 2019.
The Hatfield, Pa., product also excelled academically at Ohio State. He earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors in 2018 and '19 and was a three-time ITA Scholastic Athlete (2018, '19 and '21). He was also a five-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2017-21) and a six-time OSU Scholar-Athlete (2016-21).
