Sooners Fall at No. 22 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Oklahoma men's tennis team fell to No. 22 Florida State, 5-2, on the road Sunday afternoon.

OU's Jordan Hasson and Luis Alvarez posted a 6-1 doubles win on court three over Azariah Rusher and Alex Bulte to start the competition. But No. 40 Kholo Montsi and Alex Martinez dropped their doubles match on court one to No. 39 Cornut-Chauvinc and Dous-Karpenschif, 3-6, and Mark Mandlik and Nathan Han fell 4-6 on court two to Youcef Rihane and Loris Pourroy as the Seminoles took the doubles point.

In singles play, freshman and No. 85 Montsi defeated Rihane in straight sets on court three to earn the first point for the Sooners, 6-0, 6-2.

On court two, Hasson took the lead in the first set of his match against Pourroy before falling 5-7, 3-6.

Fifth-year senior Justin Schlageter won the first set on court four against No. 90 Jamie Connel but lost the match in a third set, 6-4, 3-6, 0-6.

Fifth-year senior Mandlik dropped the first set against Bulte on court six, but came back in the second set after winning a tiebreak. He lost the match in the third set, 4-6, 7-6(3), 1-6.

Fifth-year senior and No. 99 Martinez fought against No. 8 Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc in a three-set thriller on court one. Martinez lost the first set, came back to claim the second set but dropped the third. He lost the match, 5-7, 7-5, 2-6.

Sophomore and No. 109 Alvarez was last on court for the Sooners and came away with a win after falling behind in the first set. He won his match against Joshua Dous-Karpenschif, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.

BACK IN ACTION

The Sooners return home on Sunday, Feb. 25 to compete against Cornell at 2 p.m. at Headington Family Tennis Center.
