No. 15 Men's Tennis Sweeps Georgia in Third Top-15 Road Victory

March 27, 2026 | Men's Tennis

ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 15 Oklahoma men's tennis team claimed its fifth top-15 victory in dominant fashion, sweeping No. 11 Georgia 4-0 in Athens on Friday evening.

The Sooners at the four, five and six positions played crucial roles in the monumental win, each responsible for one of Oklahoma's four points in the dual.

OU improves to 14-5 on the season and 6-4 in SEC play. OU has notched seven wins over teams ranked in the ITA top 75.

The back half of OU's singles lineup carried the match to the finish line after the Sooners took the advantage in the doubles portion of the competition. With a 1-0 lead in Oklahoma's hands, sophomore Alejandro Melero kicked off the singles wins by taking a 6-3, 6-2 victory.

SEC Freshman of the Week Johan Rodriguez contributed another point to the scoreboard with a 7-5, 6-4 result. The No. 108 ITA singles player took a seventh straight win to improve to 13-4 on the season. He's proven to be nearly perfect at the four line, winning nine of his 10 matches played at the position.

Before the final point was added to the scoreboard, three Sooners pushed their matches into third sets. Senior Luis Alvarez, sophomore Oscar Lacides and sophomore Asahi Harazaki each fell behind in their first sets but bounced back in the second sets to force their competitions to continue.

Harazaki came away with the clinching point at the six line after remaining consistent in the deciding set to pull away, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

The matches at the one, two and three lines went unfinished. Alvarez and Lacides led their opponents while Kimhi trailed a set and was tied at five-games-all in the second set.
