Lubbock, Texas – The University of Oklahoma track and field team closed out the Texas Tech Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas, Saturday night.
Senior
Zarik Brown secured first place in the men's 400-meter dash, clocking a personal-best time of 46.03, the fourth-fastest 400m time recorded in the NCAA this season. 11 Sooners earned new personal records.
"Today was an awesome day for
Zarik Brown," noted assistant track and field coach for men's and women's sprints, Rakieem Salaam. "With that time, it moved him to No. 1 in the Big 12 and No. 4 in the NCAA standings. It was an impressive day for Zarik and something he should be very proud of."
Day one featured freshman
Hilton Green's PR jump of 5.30 (17-4.50) in the men's pole vault. Sophomore
Colton Rhodes returned to the PV after a year-long break from competition and vaulted to 4.90 (16-0.75).
To close out Friday night, freshman
Tyson Ritz took fifth place in the men's high jump with a personal-best mark of 2.14 (7-0.25). Freshman
Jack Wahl registered a 2.00 (6-6.75) jump.
Day two kicked off with the women's 200-meter dash (B), where
Kennedy Crutchfield clocked in with a personal-best 26.12.
In the women's 60-meter dash prelims, senior
Alexis Williams grabbed the Sooner's best finish, clocking in with a personal best time of 7.44, narrowly missing qualification for finals.
Nebtom N'Da also registered a new personal record (7.59) and freshman
Jordyn Price recorded a 7.73 time.
Junior
Olivia Lueking earned fifth place in the women's pole vault, grabbing a 4.25 (13-11.25) mark. Sophomore
Cassidy Bradshaw jumped to 3.90 (12-9.50).
Junior
Nikaoli Williams competed in his first meet of the season in the men's 60-meter dash, registering a 6.95 time.
In a packed women's long jump field, junior
Angel Richmore secured a new personal-record leap of 5.85 (19-2.50), which lands her the fifth-best jump in the Big 12 this season.
Jasmine Akins recorded a 5.67 (18-7.25) jump and
Agur Dwol leaped to 5.61 (19-5).
Jada Williams closed out the women's long jump with a 5.22 (17-1.50) mark.
All-American
Pippi Lotta Enok made her 2024 debut in the women's 60-meter hurdles prelims where she clocked in at 8.65. Sophomore
Eva Kubickova grabbed an 8.65 time.
Freshman duo of
Cameron Jackson and
Austin Kiser competed in the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims. Jackson recorded a personal-best 8.30 and Kiser registered 8.29.
Not long after, junior
Jenna James ran for 1:21.89 in the women's 600-yard dash, followed by freshman
Kyla Lewis, clocking in at 1:23.96 and
Sidney Kinnison finishing with a 1:29.16 time.
The men's 600Y saw junior
Gage Hensey finish with a 1:11.71 time.
In her first 400-meter race on the season, junior
Jayda Gibson ran to a new personal best time of 54.79, the second-best in the Big 12. Sophomore
Alyia Green recorded a 56.14 time and freshman
Nia Parks followed in 56.35.
Next, Senior
Zarik Brown made his NCAA top-ten effort in the men's 400-meter dash. After adjustment, Brown's finish was rounded up to 46.14@, the No. 1 time in the Big 12 and No. 4 in the NCAA.
Richard Johnson clocked in at 48.07.
In the women's pole vault (B) sophomore
Tessani Foster recorded a new PR for 3.90 (12-9.50).
In his first meet as a Sooner, sophomore
Floyd Whitaker registered 15.63 (51-3.50) in the men's triple jump.
Alexis Williams grabbed her second PR of the day in the women's 200m with a 23.95 time.
Eva Kubickova clocked in at 23.95.
To end individual sprints,
Cameron Jackson registered 22.19 in the men's 200-meter dash.
The women's 4x400m relay was fielded by two OU squads. The group of
Jayda Gibson,
Kyla Lewis,
Sidney Kinnison and
Jada Atkinson recorded a 3:44.91 finish and the group of
Nia Parks,
Alyia Green,
Emmanuella Njenje and
Jenna James earned 3:46.28.
