STILLWATER, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2023 season at the Cowboy Preview in Stillwater, Okla., Friday morning.
The men's team placed fourth in the 5K race with 105 total points, while the women's squad secured 149 total points for a fifth-place finish in the 3K.
Sophomore
Peter Makuei and junior
Colin Caso led the way for the men's team, finishing 22nd and 23rd. Makuei notched a time of 15:55.1 while Caso completed the race in 15:56.9.
Sophomore
Erin O'Brien placed 31st with a time of 11:24.4. O'Brien was followed by junior
Gabi Barrera (11:39.1) and junior
Grace Williamson (11:51.9).
"I am happy with the effort and where we are at 2 weeks in," said Head Track & Field and Cross Country Coach
Tim Langford, "one of the things we've talked about and gone over as a team is that it's important to remember that the season runs until November."
Langford said, "we've got a lot of work ahead of us but I know this group of men and women is up for the challenge and really excited for what is in store this season."
The Sooners look to improve on the season in Lubbock, Texas for their second of four regular season meets, Sept. 15 at 9 a.m. at the Texas Tech Open.
