Guzman Clinches First Big 12 Home Match

NORMAN - The No. 22 Oklahoma women's tennis team opened conference play at home with a 6-1 win over No. 31 Texas Tech on Friday night.
The Sooners opened the match with a clinched doubles point. At the top court, No. 32 Carmen and Ivana Corley earned a 6-1 ranked win over No. 77 Avelina Sayfetdinova and Metka Komac. Julia Garcia Ruiz and Dana Guzman then secured the opening point on court three with a 6-4 win against Camryn Stepp and Kate Dmitrichenko.
When play was halted, No. 8 Alexandra Pisareva and Layne Sleeth were tied 4-4 with Olivia Peet and Cristina Tiglea on court two.
Garcia Ruiz was first to finish in singles, taking down Arina Oreshchenkova 6-2, 6-2 on court six. Sleeth then followed up with a top-court win against Peet, 6-1, 6-2. To clinch the match, No. 86 Guzman brought down No. 117 Sayfetdinova on court two to secure the OU victory.
The match played out and No. 97 Carmen Corley claimed court three 7-6 (6), 6-1 over Tiglea. Texas Tech added a point to the board with court-five win from Komac over OU's Staker, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. Pisareva closed the match with 6-4, 7-6 (6) win on court four against Kate Dmitrichenko.

The Sooners will remain at home to face TCU on Sunday, March 19 at 12 p.m. CT at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
