NORMAN – Dana Guzman and Alina Shcherbinina saw their impressive run at the ITA Fall National Championships come to an end Saturday evening in the semifinals.
The duo, who advanced to the fall championships by virtue of winning the ITA All-American Championships and ITA Central Regional Championship, fell to No. 1 seed and No. 2 ranked duo of Elizabeth Scotty and Reese Brentmeier of North Carolina, 7-6 (2), 6-3.
Guzman and Shcherbinina started their run at the championships with a win over eighth-ranked Katherine Duong and Megan Heuser of Illinois, 5-7, 6-2, 10-8. The duo then defeated No. 60 Connie Ma and Alexandra Yepifanova, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, the pair easily defeated USC's Grace Piper and Parker Fry, 6-2, 6-2, to move on to the semifinals.
Guzman and Shcherbinina had won 18 straight matches heading into their semifinals matchup dating back to the NC State Ranked Spotlight in September. The duo has posted a 19-2 record this fall.
The Sooners will be back in action next weekend for the Big 12 Fall Championships in Waco, Texas.
