OU Drops Tight Battle at Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. — The No. 16 Oklahoma men's tennis team fell 4-3 to the No. 28 Arizona Wildcats in Tucson, Ariz., Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats got on the board first, taking the doubles point from OU. Mark Mandlik and Baptiste Anselmo wrapped up play first, falling 6-1 against Carlos Hassey and Gustaf Storm on court two. Alex Martinez and Welsh Hotard rolled through their match, defeating Filip Malbasic and Jonas Ziverts 6-3 at the top spot. The point came down to court three with Arizona's Colton Smith and Jared Horwood winning 6-4 over Mason Beiler and Nathan Han.
In singles action, Martinez put the Sooners on the board following a 6-1, 6-4 win over No. 120 Strom on court one.
On court three, No. 71 Smith added to the Wildcats' score with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win over Jordan Hasson.
Justin Schlageter responded for OU with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory on court five, defeating Hassey.
Arizona's Nick Lagaev notched a 7-5, 6-4 win over Welsh Hotard on court six to put the Wildcats on top, but Mark Mandlik responded for the Sooners by defeating Malbasic 7-6 (3), 6-4 on court four to notch the match at 3-3.
No. 102 Ziverts clinched the win for Arizona with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 29 Beiler on court two.
