OU Set for ITA Kickoff Weekend

NORMAN — The No. 22 Oklahoma men's tennis team heads to Oxford, Miss., for the ITA Kickoff Weekend beginning Saturday. 2022 will mark OU's 11th straight appearance at the kickoff.
"The kickoff is always a big weekend," head coach Nick Crowell said. "We are excited, and our guys are ready to go. We feel like it's going to be a great weekend."
The Sooners (5-0) will face host No. 18 Ole Miss in the first round on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT while No. 25 Illinois and NC State will compete on the other side of the bracket.
The winners of Saturday's matches will face off Sunday in the championship match at 2 p.m., with that winner punching its ticket to the ITA National Indoor Championships set for Feb. 18-21 in Seattle, Wash. The losers of Saturday's matches will play a consolation contest Sunday at 10 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Sooners closed their second weekend of competition with a sweep over Abilene Christian and 5-2 win over Nebraska.
OU started the day with the doubles point over the Huskers. Alex Martinez and Welsh Hotard rolled through their match, defeating Victor Moreno Lozano and Dario Huber 6-1 at the No. 1 line. Mason Beiler and Nathan Han clinched the point for OU with a quick 6-1 victory over Shunya Maruyama and Rudra Dixit on court three.
When play was halted, Mark Mandlik and Baptiste Anselmo were up 4-1 against Nic Wiedenhorn and William Gleason.
No. 49 Mandlik was the first Sooner to strike in singles play, tallying a 6-2, 6-3 win over Maruyama at the four spot. Beiler continued OU's momentum with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Gleason at the No. 1 line. Clinching the match for the Sooners was Martinez on court two with a 7-6(2), 6-1 victory over Huber. Hotard picked up OU's last point of the day, coming back 6-7 (1), 6-3, 1-0 [6] against Moreno Lozano on court six.

OU returns to action at the Headington Family Tennis Center, hosting Wichita State and Arkansas on Feb. 4 and 6, respectively. Friday's competition against Wichita State is slated for 6 p.m. CT, while Arkansas' match will take place at 1 p.m. CT.
