Sooners Fall to No. 18 Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. — The No. 22 Oklahoma men's tennis team fell to No. 18 Ole Miss 4-1 Saturday in the first round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Oxford, Miss.

Junior Alex Martinez notched a ranked-singles victory for the Sooners (5-1).

OU gave up the doubles point as Ole Miss claimed courts one and three. At the No. 1 spot, Martinez and Hotard fell to Finn Reynolds and Lukas Engelhardt 6-4. Mason Beiler and Nathan Han fell 6-3 on court three against J. Hallquist Lithen and Jakob Cadonau.

When play was halted, Mark Mandlik and Baptiste Anselmo were up 5-4 against Nikola Slavic and Simon Junk at the two spot.

In singles play, Martinez put the Sooners on the board after taking court two. The junior defeated Ole Miss's No. 44 Reynolds 6-3, 6-3 to earn the team point and his first win over a ranked opponent this season.

Hotard fell to Jan Soren Hain 6-1, 6-1 at the six spot. No. 31 Beiler dropped his match to No. 28 Slavic 6-1, 6-2 on the No. 1 line. On court three, No. 49 Mandlik fell to Hallquist Lithen 6-3, 6-3.

When play was halted, Justin Schlageter was down 6-2, 5-5 against Junk on court five. No. 54 Jordan Hasson won his first set in a 7-6 (3) tiebreak but was down 3-2 in the second set against Engelhardt at the No. 4 spot.

UP NEXT

The Sooners will return to action Sunday at 10 a.m. CT to play in the consolation match, facing the loser of the N.C. State vs. No. 25 Illinois match.
