NORMAN — The No. 24 Oklahoma men's tennis team closed their five-match homestand with a 5-2 victory over Nebraska at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Sunday. The Sooners advance to 5-0 on the season.

"We have continued to build through those five matches and been wanting to set the tone," head coach Nick Crowell said. "I thought our guys did a great job today — especially in the doubles. We won 11 of our first 12 games in doubles on all three courts."

OU started the day with the doubles point over the Huskers. Alex Martinez and Welsh Hotard rolled through their match, defeating Victor Moreno Lozano and Dario Huber 6-1 at the No. 1 line. Mason Beiler and Nathan Han clinched the point for OU with a quick 6-1 victory over Shunya Maruyama and Rudra Dixit on court three.

When play was halted, Mark Mandlik and Baptiste Anselmo were up 4-1 against Nic Wiedenhorn and William Gleason.

"We set the tone early and finished off the doubles," Crowell said. "I thought our guys did a good job of coming out and establishing good momentum in the singles. Nebraska did a great job of fighting back, but our guys hung in there and it was good to get four on the board."

No. 49 Mandlik was the first Sooner to strike in singles play, tallying a 6-2, 6-3 win over Maruyama at the four spot. Beiler continued OU's momentum with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Gleason at the No. 1 line. Clinching the match for the Sooners was Martinez on court two with a 7-6 (2), 6-1 victory over Huber.

"A really pivotal match was Martinez winning the first set 7-6, getting that first set on the board, and then closing it out 6-1 really gave us the match," Crowell said.

With all matches being played out, Hotard picked up another victory for his team. The sophomore came back 6-7 (1), 6-3, 1-0 [6] against Moreno Lozano on court six to tally OU's fifth point.

Jordan Hasson and Anselmo fell 4-6, 5-7 and 6-7 (10), 6-7 (6), on their respective courts.
