Women's Tennis to Host TCU, Tech

March 25, 2021 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN – The No. 30 Oklahoma women's tennis team welcomes No. 40 TCU Friday and No. 32 Texas Tech on Sunday as Big 12 play comes to Norman.

The Sooners and Horned Frogs are set for a 4 p.m. start on Friday, while Sunday's contest with Texas Tech will begin at 1 p.m.

Both matches will be broadcast on Fox Sports Oklahoma with Taylor Maples and Mark Johnson on the call.

Matchday Storylines

  • OU (8-4, 0-2 Big 12) is set for another pair of top-50 matchups this weekend as the No. 30 Sooners host No. 40 TCU on Friday at 4 p.m. followed by No. 32 Texas Tech Sunday at 1 p.m. OU previously met Texas Tech in a non-conference clash on March 5 in Norman, where the Sooners prevailed 5-2.

  • The Sooners checked in at No. 30 in the first ITA computer rankings of the season, up two spots from last week's coaches' poll. Three OU players earned their first career rankings as the ITA released individual rankings for the first time since Jan. 13: Ivana Corley is No. 79 nationally; Marcelina Podlinska is No. 92; and Carmen Corley is No. 102.

  • The Corley sisters also earned their first ranking as a pair in this week's ITA release. The duo is No. 19 nationally and is the second-highest ranked Big 12 team in the country. The Carmen and Ivana are 7-2 on the year with a 2-0 mark against ranked opponents, and 27-3 since joining forces in January 2020.

  • OU is 16-20 all-time against Tech and 15-18 against TCU. The teams were the lone Big 12 opponents the Sooners faced in 2020 before the season was ended early due to COVID-19 and OU picked up victories over both the Lady Raiders and Horned Frogs.

  • Both of the Sooners' matches over the weekend will honor a cause: Friday's match with TCU will be a pink match for breast cancer awareness while Sunday's contest with Texas Tech will honor former Sooner Oleksandra Korashvili, who recently beat Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).
