OU Leaps Past Frogs in Pink Match

March 26, 2021 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN – No. 30 Oklahoma opened the weekend with a dominant win over a ranked opponent, leaping past No. 40 TCU 6-1 Friday in the annual pink match for breast cancer awareness.

OU (9-4, 1-2 Big 12) jumped out in front early with the doubles point and never looked back as five Sooners grabbed singles wins.

"We started doubles a lot more aggressive and really learned from our last dual match," said OU head coach Audra Cohen. "We were able to maintain that aggressiveness throughout the entire doubles set on every court, which is a big improvement for us. Singles, we took care of business. We were working on our strengths and we had moments where we could have made it a tougher match and we really stayed focused and simplified things and got the job done."

OU opened the match with the doubles point as the Sooners picked up wins on courts one and three. ITA No. 19 Carmen and Ivana Corley made quick work of TCU's Isabel Pascual and Mercedes Aristegui at the top spot, 6-2.

Kianah Motosono and Dana Guzman sealed the point as they gave up just one game to rout Tate Schroeder and Addy Guevara 6-1.

When play was abandoned, Camila Romero and Martina Capurro led Marie Norris and Margaret Polk 5-2 on court two.

No. 92 Podlinska was the first Sooner off the court in singles. She gave up just three games to defeat the Horned Frogs' Guevara 6-1, 6-2. Motosono dominated court six, topping Polk 6-3, 6-2.

No. 79 Ivana Corley secured the win for OU as she defeated Pascual 7-5, 6-1 on court four. After trailing 4-2 in the first set, Corley rallied to take the frame 7-5, then kept a foot on the gas to close out the second while only giving up one game.

The remaining matches played out. No. 102 Carmen Corley added another point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Norris at the top spot. On court two, Dana Guzman outlasted Schroeder as the match went to a 10-point tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 [7].

Capurro took No. 95 Aristegui to a 10-point tiebreaker, but fell just short, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 [7].
