XC Opens Season in Stillwater

October 02, 2020 | Cross Country

NORMAN — The Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams will open their 2020 seasons on Saturday at the Cowboy Jamboree, held at the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla.

"I'm very excited about this year," said OU associate head XC coach Charmaine Darden. "We have a few newcomers and they've come in and really bought in to the program. The culture is definitely a positive one right now, that's a plus.

"We're looking to go out and do our best, I think both teams will do well. Competition-wise, there's a lot of teams that will be competing this weekend and it'll be the first meet for a lot of us. I'm eager to see how we do this week and we'll build from there."

The Sooners return a handful of contributors from their 2019 squads and will welcome plenty of fresh faces. OU put together five top-15 finishes as a team in 2019. At the season-opening Hurricane Preview, the women's squad placed third while the men took fourth. At the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., the OU men placed 15th. Additionally, the Sooners began the postseason with eighth- and ninth-place finishes at the Big 12 XC Championship in Waco, Texas.

No live stats will be available for the Cowboy Jamboree, results from the meet will be available on SoonerSports.com following the meet.
