No. 7 Sooners Host No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 6 Texas to Close Regular Season

NORMAN – The No. 7 Oklahoma women's tennis team (21-4, 11-2 SEC) returns home this weekend to close out the regular season, hosting No. 2 Texas A&M (20-3, 12-1 SEC) on Thursday at 5 p.m. CT and No. 6 Texas (15-5, 10-3 SEC) on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The Sooners enter the weekend riding an 11-match winning streak as they prepare for two top-10 matchups.

MATCHDAY BASICS

Thursday's match will serve as a Student Org Takeover, with free pizza available for fans and a tennis Jellycat raffle taking place.

Saturday's match marks Senior Day, honoring Oklahoma's two seniors, Julia Garcia Ruiz and Oyinlomo Quadre. The match will be a crimson out, with fans encouraged to wear crimson. Fans in attendance will receive a free crimson Schooner hat, and promotions will include a ball toss for Beats headphones and a hotdog and hamburger grill out.

All Oklahoma home matches at the Headington Family Tennis Center are free and open to the public. The facility follows a clear bag policy. Fans can follow the action through live stats or watch on PlaySight.

LAST TIME OUT

Oklahoma enters the weekend on an 11-match winning streak following a pair of road victories over No. 11 Vanderbilt and Missouri.

The Sooners opened the week with a hard-fought 4-3 win over Vanderbilt in Nashville, highlighted by a match-clinching three-set victory from Gloriana Nahum at court six. The win marked Oklahoma's 10th straight and its sixth top-25 victory of the season.

OU followed with a dominant 4-0 sweep at Missouri, securing the doubles point before rolling through singles play to extend the streak to 11 matches and improve to 11-2 in SEC play.

SOONERS IN THE RANKINGS

Oklahoma moved up one spot to No. 7 in the latest ITA team rankings.

In singles, freshman Evialina Laskevich leads the Sooners at No. 10, followed by Edda Mamedova at No. 54 and Julia Garcia Ruiz at No. 64.

In doubles, Oklahoma continues to feature one of the nation's top lineups, with Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum ranked No. 1 nationally. Laskevich and Mamedova check in at No. 15, while Garcia Ruiz and Oyinlomo Quadre are ranked No. 66.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Senior Julia Garcia Ruiz earned SEC Co-Player of the Week honors after leading Oklahoma to a pair of SEC victories over No. 11 Vanderbilt and Missouri. The Morelia, Mexico native went undefeated in singles and doubles, highlighted by a comeback 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory over Vanderbilt's Erin Pearce. She followed with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Missouri's Korina Roso.

In doubles, Garcia Ruiz partnered with Salakthip Ounmuang for two wins, including a 6-2 victory over Vanderbilt and a 6-2 win against Missouri. The win against the Tigers marked her 94th career doubles victory, moving her into sole possession of second place in program history.

UP NEXT

Oklahoma will host the SEC Tournament next Wednesday through Sunday at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The bracket will be announced Sunday.
