No. 21 Sooners Upset No. 11 Arizona in Season Opener

NORMAN – The No. 21 Oklahoma men's tennis team upset No. 11 Arizona 4-2 in the season opener at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Friday evening.
Oklahoma won four singles points to clinch the win after Arizona claimed the doubles point.
Junior Asahi Harazaki sealed the win for the Sooners with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the five spot. The Japan native came back from a 1-4 deficit in the first set to change the momentum in favor of the Sooners.
Harazaki's win was set up by wins at the two, three and four lines.
Johan Rodriguez put the first point on the board for the Sooners with a straight-set win at the four position. The 6-1, 6-2 performance marked the freshman's first dual win as a Sooner.
At the two singles spot, Alvarez won two big deuce points in the first set point and the match point to claim a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Alvarez's win put the Sooners even with the Wildcats, 2-2.
Sophomore Orel Kimhi pushed the Sooners ahead 3-2 in the dual with a dominant 6-4, 6-2 showing at the three spot just before Harazaki's clinching win.
The doubles point came down to the wire after Arizona took the match on court three. Courts one and two pushed into set tiebreakers after both matches scored back-and-forth games to start.
At the one line, Bruno Nhavene and Oscar Lacides fell to 0-3 in the tiebreak before closing the gap and pulling ahead, 4-3. The points were split with neither side taking a significant lead until the Wildcats won two points in a row to close it out, 6-7(4).
Oklahoma debuted a new doubles pairing seeing Luis Alvarez and Alejandro Melero pair up for the first time in the spring season. The duo held momentum going into the tiebreaker and went up 5-3 before the match was stalled.
The Wildcats only claimed one singles victory as Trondson fell short in his singles match,1-6, 3-6.

The Sooners are back at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Sunday, Jan. 18, at noon to face Abilene Christian.
