Sooners Complete Campaign at ITA Central Sectional Championships

NORMAN -- A pair of Sooners from the Oklahoma men's tennis team ended their runs at the ITA Central Sectional Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Friday afternoon.

Competition began with senior Bruno Nhavene facing Texas's Jonah Braswell and coming up short in a close match, 4-6, 4-6. Nhavene's match was followed by teammate Asahi Harazaki's bout with Ohio State's Alex Okonkwo, the No. 5 seed in the tournament. The junior from Osaka, Japan came away with the upset win after a hard-fought three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, to advance to the round of 16.

Harazaki faced Connor Henry Van Schalkwyk of Baylor in the round of 16 and fell, 1-6, 5-7, completing his campaign towards a qualifying spot at the NCAA Individual Championships.

UP NEXT

Four Sooners head to Orlando, Fla. to compete at the NCAA Individual Championships from Nov. 18-23. Senior Luis Alvarez and sophomore Oscar Lacides qualified in singles after advancing to the finals of the ITA Central Regional Championship and sharing the co-champion title. In doubles, freshman Johan Rodriguez and sophomore Orel Kimhi earned the doubles champion title at the ITA Central Regional Championship to punch their ticket to Orlando.
