Men's Tennis Falls Out of NCAA Competition, Looks Toward Spring Slate

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Four Sooners completed their runs at the 2025 NCAA Individual Championships as freshman Oscar Lacides and senior Luis Alvarez played in the singles bracket and freshman Johan Rodriguez teamed up with sophomore Orel Kimhi in doubles.
In the opening day of competition, the Lacides and Alvarez competed in the singles round of 64. Lacides opened the competition first, facing Virginia's Keegan Rice. Rice qualified for the tournament after advancing to the finals of the ITA Atlantic Regional over teammate Måns Dahlberg. The sophomore Sooner pulled ahead and claimed the first set but dropped set two to the Cavalier. In the third set, Lacides once again gained a lead, going up 4-3. Ultimately, Lacides came up short in the deciding set, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.
Alvarez's matchup against seven-seed Dylan Dietrich of Virginia began soon after Lacides's. Dietrich's spot in the NCAA tournament came through his semifinal finish at the ITA All-American Championships. Alvarez, the junior from Mexico, dropped set one and swiftly moved on to set two, ready to fight back. After taking three games in the second set, Alvarez fell out of the competition, 4-6, 3-6.
Day two began the doubles bracket where Rodriguez and Kimhi were set to pair up in only their fourth tournament together. The duo qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships in their first tournament together, going through the entire doubles side of the ITA Central Regional to claim the title at the end of the week. On the NCAA stage, the pair faced the Cavaliers again, seeing Dahlberg and Dietrich across the net. The Sooner duo fell short to the Virginia pair, 3-6, 1-6.
