April 18, 2024 | Track and Field

WALNUT, Calif.  – The University of Oklahoma track and field team concluded Mt. SAC Relays at the Mt. SAC Hilmer Lodge Stadium Saturday night.

BJ Green posted the best triple jump mark in the nation while Bayley Campbell and Thobias Cheruiyot took first place in their events. Pippi Lotta Enok and Angel Richmore earned top-eight scores in the NCAA. Five Sooners earned spots on OU's all-time top-10 list, four posted a mark ranking top-16 in the nation and nine secured outdoor personal bests.

"It was great seeing our team battling with programs we rarely see in regular season meets. We had some great things happen out here," stated head coach James Thomas. "It's always a positive leaving with some accomplishments that have never happened before."

BJ Green's nationally ranked performance came Saturday evening. On his second attempt, he jumped to 16.12m (52'10.75"), improving on his career-high set at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships. With every attempt, Green increased his personal best until his final jump landed on 16.76m (55'0") (+1.3). This mark accounts for the No. 1 jump in the nation and the second-best measure in Oklahoma history, trailing only behind Olympian Will Claye, who set the school record in 2008.

"BJ has worked very hard since the NCAA Indoor Championships on improving his sprint mechanics and improving his first phase," added assistant coach for horizontal jumps, Austin Davis. "Today he showcased that and defeated a very talented field that included Olympians and the reigning NCAA champion."
