Sooners Shut Out Baylor in Waco

WACO, Texas — The No. 20 Oklahoma women's tennis team swept No. 34 Baylor 4-0 on Friday afternoon, marking its seventh shutout win of the season.

The Sooners opened the match by claiming their 17th doubles point of the season. The Bears struck first on court three as Chloe Noel and Ava Catanzarite fell to Miska Kadleckova and Danielle Tuhten, 2-6. At the first court, No. 19 Roisin Gilheany and Dana Guzman got the win over No. 87 Sierra Berry and Zuzanna Kubacha, 6-3 to get one back. OU's top doubles pairing picked up their fourth ranked win of the spring.

The final court would follow shortly behind, as No. 51 Julia Garcia Ruiz and Zdena Safarvoa clinched the opening point at the two spot by defeating Isabella Harvison and Liubov Kostenko, 6-3.

No. 59 Florencia Urrutia grabbed the first singles win on court four, taking down Berry 6-3, 6-3. Extending the lead, No. 104 Alina Shcherbinina secured the 6-2, 6-3 win at court three against Kostenko. Emma Staker clinched OU's 15th win of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Tuhten on court six.

When play was halted, No. 26 Garcia Ruiz was up 6-2, 5-3 over No. 118 Kadleckova on the top court, No. 40 Guzman trailed Harvison 5-7, 3-0 at the No. 2 spot and Noel was behind in a third set to Kubacha, 6-2, 3-6, 0-2 on court five.

The Sooners will travel north in the Lone Star State and finish their regular season with a final Big 12 matchup against No. 40 TCU on Sunday, April 14, at 1 p.m. CT.
