Women's Tennis Wraps Regular Season with Comeback Win at TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas — The No. 20 Oklahoma women's tennis team erased an early deficit to close out the regular season with a win on Sunday afternoon, defeating No. 40 TCU 4-2 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Sooners opened the match by dropping just their fourth doubles point of the season. The Horned Frogs struck first on court one as No. 19 Dana Guzman and Roisin Gilheany suffered their second defeat of the season as a pairing to Jade Otway and Isabel Pascual, 1-6. On the second court, No. 51 Julia Garcia Ruiz and Zdena Safarova got the win over Raquel Caballero Chica and Chiho Mushika, 6-4 to get one back.
The final court would go to tiebreakers, as TCU's Destinee Martins and Helena Narmont clinched the opening point in a thriller at the three spot by defeating Alina Shcherbinina and Ava Catanzarite, 7-6(6).
The Horned Frogs grabbed the first singles win at the top court, as No. 121 Martins knocked off No. 26 Garcia Ruiz 6-2, 6-2. The sophomore and Big 12's singles leader dropped her first match of the spring. Getting the Sooners on the board, Emma Staker secured the 6-1, 6-4 win at court six against Mushika.
No. 40 Guzman was the next to take the victory and tie the score, defeating Otway 6-2, 6-3 on court two.
Extending the lead, No. 59 Florencia Urrutia topped Caballero Chica at the No. 4 spot, bouncing back after dropping her first set to take the 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win.
Chloe Noel clinched OU's 16th win of the season with a 7-6(3), 6-4 victory over Narmont on court five to complete the comeback.
When play was halted, No. 104 Alina Shcherbinina was up 4-6, 6-1, 5-1 over Pascual on the third court.
With the win, Oklahoma secures a top-five Big 12 regular season finish for the sixth straight season.
