Sooners Shut Out Cincinnati

NORMAN – The No. 20 Oklahoma women's tennis team shut out Cincinnati, 7-0, Friday at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
Oklahoma (6-4, 1-1 Big 12) notched their first conference win of the season. The Sooners won the doubles point for the fourth straight match to take the early 1-0 lead.
Chloe Noel and Ava Catanzarite opened play on court three, defeating Morgan Pyrz and Sakurako Watanabe 6-0. The No. 63 doubles pairing of Julia Garcia Ruiz and Zdena Safarova clinched the doubles point for OU with their 7-5 win over Vic deSamucewicz and Callie Flanagan of Cincinnati at the No. 2 position.
The Sooners won six singles matches to secure the win over the Bearcats.
Noel won OU's first singles point at the No. 3 spot after not dropping a set to UC's Gabrielle Guenther, 6-3, 6-2.
Safarova picked up her third win in singles on the season after defeating Isabel Pacheco, 6-0, 6-3.
No. 42 Dana Guzman clinched the win for OU with the Sooners' fourth dual point Friday. Guzman defeated deSamucewicz of Cincinatti 6-0, 6-3, at the No. 2 spot.
Adding to the shutout for OU was No. 33 Garcia Ruiz who won 6-3, 6-0 over Gruszczynska at the top court, Catanzarite who defeated Watanabe 3-6, 6-1, 12-10, and Emma Staker with a 6-2, 5-7, 10-2 win over Flanagan at the No. 5 position.

The Sooners will close out the weekend against West Virginia on Sunday, March 10 at 1 p.m. CT. Free pizza will be provided to fans entering the Headington Family Tennis Center until supplies last.
