Sooners Sweep First Conference Match of the Season

NORMAN - The Oklahoma men's tennis team began Big 12 conference play with a sweep over Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas on Thursday evening.

The Sooners picked up the doubles point in the match to start the dual with a 1-0 lead. Fifth-year senior Mark Mandlik and junior Jordan Hasson were first off the court with a 6-2 win at the two position. Freshman pair Hank Trondson and Asahi Harazaki clinched the doubles point for the Sooners after earning a 6-3 win.

Each of the six Sooners took first-set wins to gain leads in their matches.

Sophomore Luis Alvarez was first to win a singles match, picking up a win over Niksa Arsic at the four line, 6-1, 6-3.

Fifth-year senior and No. 20 Alex Martinez came out on top against ranked opponent No. 56 Olle Wallin in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(4).

Immediately after Martinez's win, Mandlik picked up a straight-set win to clinch the match for the Sooners. Freshman and No. 107 Kholo Montsi was next to follow, taking a win at the two line.

Fifth-year senior Justin Schlageter split sets with Texas Tech's Piotr Pawlak but won the match in a set tiebreak, 6-4, 6-7(4), 10-7. Hasson was the last Sooner on court and won his match, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(4) to sweep the Red Raiders.

UP NEXT

The Sooners travel to Provo, Utah to face BYU on Saturday, March 23 at 12 p.m. CT. The squad returns to the Headington Family Tennis Center to host No. 2 TCU on Thursday, March 28 at 6 p.m.
