Sooners Cap Weekend With Shutout Against Houston

HOUSTON, Texas – The No. 21 Oklahoma women's tennis team picked up their second win of the weekend on Sunday evening, shutting out Houston, 4-0, at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
Oklahoma (9-4, 4-1 Big 12) endured two lengthy rain delays before securing their fourth straight victory. Against the Cougars, the Sooners won the doubles point for the seventh straight match to take the early 1-0 lead.
OU's No. 22 doubles pairing of Roisin Gilheany and Dana Guzman opened play on the top court, defeating Sophie Schouten and Sonya Kovalenk, 6-4. Following closely behind, Chloe Noel and Ava Catanzarite clinched the doubles point for OU with their 6-4 win over Gabriela Cortes and Elena Trencheva of Houston at the No. 3 position to remain perfect as a duo on the season (5-0).
When play was halted on court three, No. 63 Julia Garcia Ruiz and Zdena Safarova lead Houston's Laura Slisane and Maria Dzemeshkevich, 6-5.
No. 33 Garcia Ruiz won OU's first singles point on the second court after not dropping a set to Houston's Schouten, 6-1, 6-1. The sophomore from Mexico improved her season singles dual record to 11-0.
Noel extended the Sooner lead by defeating Cortes, 6-0, 6-3 on the fourth court.
To clinch the match and complete the shutout for Oklahoma, Catanzarite delivered a 6-4, 6-1 win over Nina Skoric on court five.
