Cobra Named Associate Head Coach

July 03, 2023 | Women's Tennis

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head women's tennis coach Audra Cohen announced the hiring of Mariana Cobra to associate head coach on Monday.

Cobra spent the previous three seasons as an OU volunteer assistant coach and has been a vital part of the program's recent success.

The Sooners have registered a 69-20 record during Cobra's time at OU, including a run to the program's first national championship match appearance. In addition to a trip to the title match in 2022, the Sooners claimed back-to-back Big 12 regular season titles in 2022 and 2023 for the first time in program history.

Prior to her time at OU, Cobra served as head coach at Fresno State during the 2019-20 season. She also led her University of North Florida teams to five straight conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances as a head coach. During her time leading the North Florida Ospreys, Cobra's squads claimed three consecutive ASUN conference titles and made three NCAA Tournament appearances while going 49-25 overall.

At the University of Idaho, Cobra's squads thrived in two seasons where she led the Vandals to back-to-back Big Sky Championships and snapped Sacramento State's streak of 13 consecutive conference championships.  Her teams also achieved perfect APRs of 1000 in both seasons and Cobra was named the 2015 Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year.

Over the course of her seven-year career as a Division I head coach, Cobra has helped her players to 30 all-conference selections, including three conference player-of-the-year awards. She is known for developing players into championship-caliber student-athletes on and off the court, while consistently recruiting top-flight talent.
