Sooners Advance To Semifinals

LAWRENCE, Kan. - No. 4-seed Oklahoma battled back to take the 4-3 victory over No. 5-seed Baylor in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championships on Friday afternoon.

The Bears came out strong in doubles and claimed two courts to clinch the opening point. No. 16 Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz defeated OU's Baptiste Anselmo and Nathan Han 6-4 at the top court and Christopher Frantzen and Luc Koenig followed up with a 6-1 victory on court three over Jordan Hasson and Siphos Montsi.

When play was halted, Alex Martinez and Justin Schlageter were tied 4-4 with No. 30 Finn Bass and Jua Grassi Mazzuchi.

Singles opened with the Bears striking first with a win from Koenig on court six, 6-2, 6-2, over Luis Alvarez. The Sooners then went on to tie the match with back-to-back singles wins. No. 94 Martinez claimed the ranked win against No. 62 Paroulek at the top court, 6-3, 6-4. Schlageter then forced a third set after dropping set one and took the 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot over Marko Miladinovic.

Both squads traded court wins on the remaining three courts. Baylor's Mazzuchi ran away with the victory on court five with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) score over Han. OU's Hasson tied the match 3-3 after defeating Velcz 6-7 (14), 6-0, 6-2 on court two.

To advance the Sooners to the semifinals, No. 111 Montsi battled back to take down No. 82 Bass 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 on court three.

OU will face No. 1-seed Texas in the next round on Saturday, April 22 at 12 p.m. CT.
