Men's Tennis Takes 4-0 Victory Over Baylor

NORMAN - The Oklahoma men's tennis team swept the Baylor Bears in a Friday night battle in Norman.

The Sooners opened the match with a clinched doubles point. Alex Martinez and Justin Schlageter took down Juampi Mazzuchi and Finn Bass on court two 6-2 to get things started. Baylor answered with top-court win from No. 14 Zsombar Velcz and Tadeas Paroulek 6-3. In a back-and-forth battle, Jordan Hasson and Siphos Montsi claimed court three over Justin Braverman and Christopher Frantzen 7-6 (0).

"Tonight was a great match and our guys came ready to compete all night long," said OU head coach Nick Crowell. "The doubles point was huge and Jordan and Siphos stayed calm and played well in the big moments. It was great to see Alex and Justin neat one of the better teams in the country as well."

With the 1-0 lead going into singles, Hasson kept the momentum going with a ranked 6-4, 6-4 win over No. 53 Finn Bass on court two. Montsi followed it up with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 spot against Marko Miladinovic. To secure the OU victory, No. 98 Alex Martinez battled for the 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over Velcz at the top court.

"The team has been building every day and every week. Each guy at all six spots in singles competed great. Jordan and Siphos got off pretty quick and in straight sets and set the table for Alex to clinch at the end. Alex stayed aggressive and poised and was able to win it on his terms," said Crowell.

When play was halted, Schlageter was down 6-7 (5), 4-3 to Juampi Mazzuchi on court four. Han was down 6-4, 4-5 to Luc Koenig at the No. 5 spot and Luis Alvarez was up 6-2, 5-5 with Ethan Muze on court six.

"Now we have to get back to work and prepare for the Red Raiders on Sunday," said Crowell. "We hope to see another great crowd Sunday. Our fans are very amazing and we just want to thank them for coming out tonight!"
