LUBBOCK, Texas — The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams returned to action for their second regular season meet in Lubbock, Texas, at the Texas Tech Open on Saturday.
Both squads brought home top-two finishes. The OU women finished first with a combined time of 1:52:08.70, the first first-place finish in the Fields era, while the men took second with a time of 2:07:35.58.
"The women's team is really excited for this win," said associate head coach
Hannah Fields. "With it being our first team win in five years, we are definitely using this momentum going into these coming weeks of training before the next meet. The girls worked so well together today and I couldn't be more proud of how they all elevated one another."
Our guys are happy to walk away with a second place finish, especially knowing that we came out with the top finish out of the teams in the Big 12. It was a rocky day for some of them, so if this is a B level performance, then I know good things are around the corner when everyone is healthy. Everything is moving in the right direction and we are all looking forward to building on top of this in training and executing our vision
Sophomore
Antonio Florcruz (24:51.88) led the men's side with a fifth-place finish and graduate student
Jordyn Kaplan (22:12.80) paced the women in fifth place.
The Sooners return to the course Sept. 30 in Fayetteville, Ark., for the Chili Pepper XC Festival.
