Sooners Make Strong Showing at Season Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams opened their season in Columbia Thursday morning at the Mizzou XC Opener.
Both OU squads placed second at the meet with the women finishing their 5K in a total time of 1:31:19.4, while the men completed the 6K course in a total time of 1:33:26.2.
"The team is excited about our showing for the Mizzou XC Opener," said head coach Hannah Fields. "We had some new faces and some returners really step up to the plate and compete well. We've made big strides in both our fitness and culture since last season, and I think that showed on the course today. Shout out to Colin Caso for his second-place overall finish in his cross country Sooner debut and to Erin O'Brien for a fourth place finish and number one Sooner individual as a freshman on the women's side."
Sophomore Colin Caso (18:05.2) led all Sooners with a second-place finish, while freshman Erin O'Brien (17:55.0) took fourth to pace the women.
"We know we have more work to do, but the energy has been great," Fields said. "I'm excited to watch them progress during this next training block."
The Sooners return to the course Sept. 17 in Lubbock, Texas for the Texas Tech Open at 8:15 a.m. on the Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course.
