XC Announces 2022 Schedule

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma head track and field/cross country coach Tim Langford and associate head cross country coach Hannah Fields announced OU's 2022 cross country schedule on Monday.

The Sooners will compete in four regular season meets in the fall before heading to Lubbock, Texas, for the Big 12 Cross Country Championship.

"We are so excited to get started for cross country," said Fields. "The team has nearly doubled in size with transfers and freshmen coming in. We kick off our season at the Missouri XC Opener. Regionals is held here this year, so we want to get familiar with the course and test the fitness coming off summer training. Next up, we head to Texas Tech, where conference will be held later in the year. At the end of September, we travel to Arkansas, where the famous Chili Pepper meet is. This is a fast course, so I'm looking forward to great competition and some PR's! The last meet before conference is up the road at Oklahoma State for pre-nats."

Oklahoma begins racing Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Mizzou XC Opener in Columbia, Mo. The squad will take a two-week break before traveling to Lubbock, Saturday, Sept. 17, for the Texas Tech Open. Their next meet will take them to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Chili Pepper XC Festival on Friday, Sept. 30. The Sooners' last stop before the Big 12 Championship will be the Weis-Crockett Invitational in Stillwater, Saturday, Oct. 15.

"OSU hosts the national meet this year, so we will see teams from all over the country aiming to prepare for the challenge of this course," Fields said. "With one of the best cross-country conferences in the country, we are looking forward to the Big 12 meet back at Texas Tech to compete with some of the top teams!"

The postseason slate begins Friday, Oct. 28, at the Big 12 XC Championship in Lubbock. The Sooners then travel to Columbia, Mo., for the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday, Nov. 11. The NCAA Championships will wrap up the 2022 cross country season on Saturday, Nov. 19 in Stillwater.
