Sooners Pick Up Nine All-Big 12 Honors

NORMAN – The Sooners claimed nine All-Big 12 honors, the conference announced Tuesday. Anchisa Chanta, Carmen Corley, Ivana Corley, Alexandra Pisareva, Layne Sleeth, Emma Staker and head coach Audra Cohen all earned league accolades.
Cohen was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year, after going 27-2 overall and 9-0 in regular season conference play. She also led her team to their first ITA National Indoor appearance, as well as coaching her team to their highest-program ranking at No. 2 in the ITA and No. 1 in the USTA polls, after entering the season unranked.
Junior Sleeth claimed Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and was named first team selection in singles. A transfer from University of Florida and Markham, Ontario native, she compiled a 17-4 overall record, went 12-3 at the No. 1 position and went 7-1 in conference play. Also, Sleeth clinched the program's first Big 12 Regular Season title in her comeback performance against Oklahoma State.
Chanta, from Bangkok, Thailand, arrived to Norman in January and quickly collected several singles wins. She was named to the All-Big 12 First Team in singles and All-Freshman team with her undefeated 8-0 conference record, as well as going 22-2 overall.
Freshman and Tulsa native, Emma Staker, was named the No. 6 positon champion in singles for her 19-3 overall record and 7-1 conference season.
Also picking up the the All-Big 12 First Team honor, Ivana and Carmen Corley were selected in doubles play. The sister duo went 6-2 at the top court against conference opponents, while also going 22-5 in dual matches. The pair reached their highest regular season ranking at No. 4 and were named the All-Big 12 No. 1 doubles position champions.
Pisareva and Sleeth were named the All-Big 12 doubles No. 2 position champions with their 5-2 conference record and overall 12-5 record at the No. 2 spot.
OU awaits their NCAA tournament destination, announced on Monday, May 2.
