Sooners Fall To No. 4 Texas in Big 12 Title Match

FORT WORTH, Texas — The No. 2 Oklahoma women's team ended its run at the Big 12 Women's Tennis Championship, falling to No. 4 Texas 4-2 in Sunday's title match.

Doubles action kicked off with a Sooner court three win from Anchisa Chanta and Dana Guzman, defeating Sabina Zeynalova and Vivian Ovrootsky 6-3. The Longhorns answered with a 6-3 top court win by No. 15 Peyton Stearns and Allura Zamarripa over No. 6 Ivana and Carmen Corley.

The opening point came down to court two, where No. 88 Texas' Kylie Collins and Charlotte Chavatipon took the narrow 7-6 (7-5) win over Layne Sleeth and Alexandra Pisareva.

The Longhorns went into singles with the 1-0 lead over the Sooners. No. 10 Sleeth was the first to fall, with No. 2 Peyton Stearns grabbing the top court 6-0, 6-0 victory.

No. 69 Anchisa Chanta put Oklahoma on the board with her 6-3, 6-1 win over No. 79 Sabina Zeynalova on court three.

Charlotte Chavatipon, ranked No. 118, defeated Dana Guzman at the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 6-1.

On court five, Pisareva was the next Sooner to tally a point for OU, taking down Allura Zamarripa 6-4, 6-2.

To clinch the match, UT's No. 58 Kylie Collins secured the victory for the Longhorns with her 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 50 Carmen Corley.

When play was halted, Vivian Ovrootskyr led freshman Emma Staker in the third set on court six with 6-4, 3-6, 2-1.
