Sooners Fall To No. 4 Baylor

NORMAN — The No. 20 Oklahoma men's tennis team battled until the very end against No. 4 Baylor but dropped the match,4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

"Today didn't go our way at the end. I'm proud of how the guys competed all day, we will continue to build and learn from today and our guys will bounce back strong," OU head coach Nick Crowell said.
 
The Sooners opened the match in doubles with Mason Beiler and Nathan Han striking first, tallying a 6-1 win against Tadeas Paroulek and Christopher Frantzen at the No. 3 spot. Mark Mandlik and Baptiste Anselmo clinched the point by a score of 7-6 (4) against No. 24 Matias Soto and Juampi Mazzuchi.
 
In singles competition No. 70 Jordan Hasson brought the heat for the Sooners and garnered a 6-2, 6-3 win on court three against Marko Miladinovic.
 
The Bears answered with a top court win, 6-3, 6-3, by No. 110 Soto over OU's No. 29 Beiler. Baylor tied the score at two when No. 42 Sven Lah emerged victorious, 7-6 (6), 6-3, on court two over Alex Martinez.

The Sooners took back the lead as Welsh Hotard defeated No. 106 Paroulek, 6-3, 7-6 (5), at the No. 6 spot.
 
The battle continued as Baylor's Finn Bass narrowly took down No. 88 Mandlik, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot to tie the match at three.
 
To clinch the match, Mazzuchi came out triumphant on court five in a hard-fought battle against Justin Schlageter, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-3.
 
"Sooner Nation showed up today with over 300 in the crowd, they were loud and pushed our guys. I want to personally thank them and look forward to seeing them back in a few weeks," said Crowell.

The Sooners will return to the Headington Family Tennis Center on April 1 against Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. CT.
