Big 12 XC Championships

October 27, 2022 | Cross Country
NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Lubbock, Texas, for the Big 12 Cross Country Championship, Oct. 28.
The Sooners head into postseason after competing at the Mizzou XC Opener, Texas Tech Open, Chile Pepper XC Festival and the Weis-Crockett Invitational. Some notable moments from the regular season include senior Jordyn Kaplan's Big 12 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor on Sept. 20, after she secured fifth place with a time of 22:18.6 at the Texas Tech Open. This aided in leading the women's squad to their first team win in five years. The men's side also found success, placing second with junior Jordan Gledhill pacing the men with a clocked time of 25:30.3.
"Conference has been the meet the team has been gearing up for all year, so they are really excited to represent the university and all the work they've put in," said cross country head coach Hannah Fields. "The women have been a strong unit all year and training so well together, so I know that race is going to reflect that. The men have had hints of strong performances and they are extremely motivated to have all the pieces come together for the conference meet. The team as a whole is on another level from last year and we are hungry to put OU on the map in this conference for cross country. The weather is going to be a challenge, but it's also the perfect opportunity to embrace less than ideal conditions and rise above. We need every person racing to show up and exceed expectations and that's that cross country is all about."
Last year's conference championship concluded with the men finishing eighth in the 8k and the women placing ninth in the 6k competition.
Admission is free to the event. Both races will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
