OU Wraps Regular Season With Win at K-State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – No. 24 Oklahoma closed out the regular season with a 6-1 win at Kansas State on Sunday. With the victory, OU completes the regular season at 14-5 overall and 5-3 against the Big 12.

The Sooners went undefeated during the month of April, racking up five consecutive victories.

"Today was a good match for us to finish out regular season," said OU head coach Audra Cohen. "We started a little slow in singles and then we really picked up the energy and took the momentum."

For the seventh consecutive match, the Sooners took the doubles point. The senior duo of Camila Romero and Martina Capurro struck first with a 6-2 rout of Lilla Barzo and Manami Ukita on court two. ITA No. 15 Carmen and Ivana Corley defeated K-State's Ioana Gheorghita and Maria Linares 6-4 at the top spot to seal the point. When play was abandoned, Dana Guzman and Kianah Motosono trailed Wildcats Margot Decker and Anna Turco 5-4 on court three.

Marcelina Podlinska made a statement in singles play, giving up just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 rout of Turco on court six.

Capurro notched her fifth straight win in a 7-5, 6-3 defeat of Gheorghita on court four. The Sooner battled back from a 5-3 deficit, winning four straight games to take her first set 7-5 before rolling through set two.

Motosono clinched the win for OU as she took out Decker 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 5 line.

No. 97 Guzman held strong to win her match after a 10-point tiebreaker. The freshman took the first set 7-6 (9) before dropping the second 6-4. Guzman battled through the breaker to win it 11-9 and earn her seventh consecutive victory.

On court one, No. 73 Carmen Corley fell to Karine-Marion Job 6-3, 6-2 at the top spot.
