Sooners Fall to Arizona State

NORMAN – No. 28 Oklahoma fell to No. 21 Arizona State 4-3 Friday night at the Headington Family Tennis Center in the first of two ranked matchups this weekend.
Mason Beiler, Nathan Han and Alex Martinez all came away with singles wins as the Sooners dropped to the Sun Devils.
The Sooners gave up the doubles point for the first time in six matches as Arizona State claimed courts three and one. At the No. 3 line, OU's Jake Van Emburgh and Matt Rodriguez fell to Sun Devils Christian Lerby and Andrea Bolla 6-1. Sooners Alex Martinez and Nathan Han fell to George Stoupe and Nathan Ponwith 6-2 at the top spot.
When play was halted, Beiler and Max Stewart trailed ASU's Tim Ruehl and Makey Rakotomalala 5-3 on court two.
In singles, ITA No. 69 Beiler put OU on the board with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Rakotomalala at the No. 4 line.
On court four, Mandlik was defeated by Bolla 6-3, 6-1. At the No. 6 spot, Stewart fended off match points but fell to Lerby after three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Van Emburgh battled Ponwith to the wire but came up just short, 7-6 (5), 7-5, and ASU clinched the match.
The last two matches played out. On court five, Nathan Han won his fifth straight match to add a win for the Sooners. In a tightly contested match, the freshman came out on top of ASU's Stoupe 7-6 (6), 7-6 (1).
